About Me
Like most writers, I was a reader long before picking up a pen to write stories of my own. As a child growing up in a small village in the South Wales Valleys in the 1980s, my little piece of heaven was the local library a two-mile round trip away in the next village. Petite in stature I may have been, but my imagination made up the deficit. Before long there was little left in the entire building I hadn't devoured, from Stephen King to Robin Cook, Virginia Andrews to Jeffrey Archer, and everything else in between. Well, what else was a kid supposed to read in the pre-Young Adult era? And anyway, it's not as if I was choosy.
In my teen years I filled blank paper with my own words and sentences, but the thoughts weren't complete and my scribblings took no real cohesive form. Instead the enjoyment was in playing with language and ideas (as well as exorcising the teenage angst, naturally). Later, work and family took the place of writing, but my love of reading never went away. And in 2009 I embarked on a Literature degree with the Open University, with no goal in mind other than a desire to challenge myself and explore the world of books I was so fond of.
And so it began...
Not only did I learn more about the authors I admired, their work and their influence, but I also rediscovered a love of writing. During the course of studying for the degree I would have several short stories published, join a team of peers interviewing authors and reviewing new books, and also assist in curating the transfer of printed books into digital formats that would aid the visually impaired.
Immersed in a world of books and words I couldn't have been more at home. And in the years since, I have worked with other authors to help get their books ready for publication, as well as, of course, starting my own author career.
So, about that... I should probably warn you. My characters have a tendency to either disrupt, corrupt or self-destruct, teetering precariously on the thin line between dark and light, right and wrong, good and bad. These capricious individuals set themselves apart from the norm, or sometimes stray down a different path. It's all I can do to take my lead from them, trailing behind making notes and trying to keep up as I go on a breathless, heart-thumping and thought-provoking journey with no knowing where I might end up, but for which my still-bigger-than-I-am imagination gets the better of me every time.
I live, write, edit and read in South Wales, UK, with my husband, two sons, and an eternally bedraggled Yorkshire Terrier.
